Surgical Services

Surgical ServicesElective surgery may be scheduled 7:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. It must be done through the physician's office, and patients must complete a pre-operative visit/tour or telephone call. This visit will familiarize the patient with the operating room and Surgical and Anesthesia Department staff. The visit includes patient registration, blood, x-ray, EKG tests, anesthesia questionnaire, and general questions concerning the patient's medical history.

Three (3) operating suites are complete with state-of-the-art surgery equipment. The recovery area has been expanded to accommodate six (6) beds with additional recovery space available in our Intensive Care/Step Down Unit. A separate surgery suite for C-section/delivery is located in the Family Birth Center of the hospital.

Pre-Surgery Process

By giving the patient a general orientation of the surgical waiting area, Outpatient Surgical Services, and the staff and facility, the pre-surgery process can ensure the patient's safety and well-being during his/her stay at the hospital.

The physician's office must schedule the pre-operative tests and visit.

The nurse-educator is available Monday- Friday, 8:00 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. The visit is usually scheduled from two (2) to seven (7) days before the day of surgery.

One day before surgery the patient will be contacted by the hospital to review instructions and confirm the schedule. For every surgical patient, the physician's office must provide the hospital with:

1. A history and physical
2. Pre-operative orders
3. A surgical permit with complete operation information without abbreviations.

Out-of-town physicians must mail or deliver this information to the Surgery Department as soon as possible after scheduling surgery. Fremont area physicians may deliver patient information, mail it to surgery, or send it with the patient on their pre-operative visit.
